McQuillin earns academic honor

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas senior gymnast Dana McQuillin was named to The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 team it was announced today. McQuillin posted a 3.72 grade point average with a double major in sociology and interior design. “We’re very proud of Dana’s accomplishments,” said co-head coach Rene Cook. “She has been a true leader in and out of the gym and a joy to coach. Dana’s going to be successful no matter what she pursues and this is another accomplishment and I’m sure she’ll have more to come.” “Dana took a chance on a program that was new,” added co-head coach Mark Cook. “She was a pioneer and the Gym’Backs will always continue on the foundation and ground work she has laid. This is another great accomplishment for Dana and I’m proud of her success.” The senior was a member of the inaugural gymnastics team and has many accomplishments under her belt. The West Orange, N.J., native was the first Arkansas gymnast to earn Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honors and was the first to be selected to the NCAA Championship earning a trip as an individual in 2005. McQuillin’s senior year saw the team captain lead the Gym’Backs to the program’s first-ever NCAA Championship with an upset win over ninth-ranked UCLA in the South Central Regional Championship in Barnhill Arena.
