Meet @RazorbackWTEN: Mia Jurasic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 54 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team begins its 2015 spring schedule Saturday, Jan. 17 with a home doubleheader against Wichita State and Mercer. In an effort to get to know the Razorback women’s tennis team, ArkansasRazorbacks.com will feature a student-athlete each day leading up to Jan. 17.

Today’s featured student-athlete is freshman Mia Jurasic.

Jurasic is in her first year as a Razorback and comes to Arkansas by way of Ogulin, Croatia.

In her first collegiate matches this past fall, she posted a 5-11 singles record and was 6-4 in doubles, including 3-0 when pairing with fellow freshman Peyton Jennings.

ArkansasRazorbacks.com recently sat down with Jurasic.

Why did you choose Arkansas? I visited the university last April and met the coaches and team. I really liked and connected with the team as well as the coaches.

What do you like to do outside of tennis? I like to ski, that’s my favorite sport after tennis.

What are you most looking forward to this season?  I am looking forward to playing my best tennis and contributing that to my team and university. We have an awesome team and we can do big things this season.

When did you start playing tennis?  I started playing tennis very early, when I was five. My mom plays tennis so my first steps on the court were with her.

If you could play doubles with anybody, who would it be? I would like to play with Serena Williams. She is my idol because of her aggressive and powerful style of play. She is the queen of tennis!

What are three things you can’t live without? My friends, tennis and my family.

Where is your favorite place on campus? The tennis courts and cafeteria.

Forehand or backhand? I would say that my backhand and forehand are on same level. If I have to choose I would pick my forehand because I can be more little bit more aggressive with it.

Do you do anything in particular before a match? Yes, I have the same small ritual that I’ve done before matches for a long time. It brings me luck hopefully!

What is your favorite part about being on the team at Arkansas? I feel like I am improving my game each day on this team. My favorite part of being here is that I am happy, that’s the key for success.
