NEW ORLEANS — The Arkansas men’s cross country team kept its No. 1 South Central Regional Ranking in the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Rankings after placing 16th at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Friday.
The Razorbacks were selected as the No. 1 team in the South Central Region for the 14th straight poll after a decent showing among the nation’s best teams at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Arkansas defeated four of the 19 ranked teams in Madison, as they scored 416 points to finish 16th overall in the 36-team event.
All-American Stanley Kebenei collected his third top 10 finish of the year at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, as he placed sixth overall with an 8K time of 23:55.00. It was a huge improvement for Kebenei from last year’s race, as he finished 23rd at the 2013 Wisconsin adidas Invitational.
Kebenei’s performance over the weekend earned him a place at No. 17 in this week’s FloTrack.com Top 25 Individual Rankings. As a team, head coach Chris Bucknam’s team checked in at No. 23 in FloTrack.com’s Top 25.
Two-time Southeastern Conference Freshman Runner of the Week, Alex George, turned in another solid race for Arkansas, as he ran a personal-best time of 24:25.00 to place 57th in the 254-runner event.
Spots No. 2-No. 4 remained the same, as there was no movement between Longhorn State schools Texas, Lamar and Texas A&M. UT-Arlington rounded out the top five, moving up two spots from last week’s rankings.
The Razorbacks will now move into the championship portion of its schedule as they will participate in the 2014 SEC Championship on Oct. 31. Race time is slated for 10 a.m., as Arkansas will be seeking its third straight SEC Cross Country title.
