Men's track bronze in the 4x800 in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 15 Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field team continued competition at the 2010 Texas Relays on Thursday, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. The 4×800-meter relay picked up a bronze finish and the 400-meter hurdlers clocked season bests.

"We had a good start today," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "Terry Prentice and Matt Kirbos finished a tough decathlon in really windy conditions. We are getting better in the 400-meter hurdles and I saw a lot of promise in our 4×800-meter relay. Duncan Phillips is still working his way back into race shape and Drew Butler ran a great leg for us. Today was definitely a good start to the weekend."

The quartet of freshman Omar Abdi, sophomore Duncan Phillips, freshman Drew Butler and junior Chris Bilbrew picked up a third-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay. They clocked a time of 7:30.87 and nearly matched 2009’s silver finish in the same event.

In their first collegiate decathlons, sophomore Terry Prentice finished 14th with 6,540 points and freshman Matt Kirbos was 18th with 6,123 points. Prentice’s total is the No. 4 mark in school history while Kirbos’ total is the No. 6 mark in school history.

In the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Andrew Pennington was 28th in 55.06, freshman Hunter Bourke finished 31st in 55.15, freshman Travis Southard was 37th in 55.56and freshman Caleb Cross was 40th in 55.81. Pennington’s time is a season best while Bourke, Southardand Cross clocked personal bests.

Events will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Friday for the Razorbacks with the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles.
