The Mike Anderson era of University of Arkansas basketball begins on Friday night when the Razorbacks open the regular season against USC Upstate at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville at 7 p.m. Anderson was hired as the head coach at Arkansas in late March and has been at work preparing for Friday night’s game and beyond. While he does have two exhibition victories under his belt at Walton Arena, Friday night’s game will be the first where he can improve upon his 200-98 overall head coaching record. With Friday being Veterans Day, all military personnel, past and present will be granted free admission to the game by presenting their military identification. The Razorbacks won both their exhibition contests going away, speaking volumes to the conditioning that Anderson put his team through during the preseason. Arkansas closed both games on significant runs, 19-6 against Texas A&M-Commerce and 16-3 versus Christian Brothers, to take relatively close contests and make them into solid wins. Production for both games came from a variety of sources with sophomore Mardracus Wade scoring 20 in the opener and junior Marshawn Powell tallying 26 in the second contest. The Razorbacks were also unselfish with the ball as they recorded 40 assists in their two games on 62 made baskets. The Hogs also shot well from the field (54.4) and free throw line (77.1). USC Upstate has yet to play a game and their contest with Arkansas will feature three new starters from last year. Sophomore Torrey Craig is the key to the Spartans attack, leading Upstate in scoring a year ago with 14.4 points per game. Season and regular season non-conference tickets for Razorback basketball games are on sale at the Razorback Ticket Center by calling 1-800-982-HOGS or by going on-line at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
