Miseviciute anchors Lady'Backs to finals in singles doubles

TULSA – Junior Aurelija Miseviciute is set to represent the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks not once, but twice, at the ITA Central Region Championship finals on Sunday.

Miseviciute is set to defend her one fall loss against Oklahoma’s Anna Maria Constantinescu at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Afterewards, Miseviciute will team up with junior Ela Kaluder to face Boise State’s Polina Kokoulina and Pichittra Thongdach in the doubles finals.

Miseviciute won her first match Saturday in the quarterfinals against Liz Ferris of Utah, 6-2, 6-0. Then, she went on to qualify for the finals on Sunday after topping Denver’s Mallory Voleker, 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Kaluder and Miseviciute slid past the No. 10 seed, Ute Schnoy and Mallory Voleker of Denver, 8-6. In the semifinals, the Arkansas duo punched their ticket for the finals after putting down Oklahoma’s Anna Maria Constantinescu and Chelsea Orr, 8-3.

The only thing worrying Lady’Back head coach Michael Hegarty about Sunday is the amount of energy his team will have after such a long week.

“It has been a fantastic run for out team this week,” said Hegarty. “I just hope Aurelija has enough in the tank for singles and doubles tomorrow.”

In singles quarterfinals action, junior Nanar Airapetian was knocked out of the tournament by Constantinescu, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Maryori Franco also saw her singles play end after a loss to Voleker, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
