Miseviciute and Bordeleau champions at USTA

New York, N.Y. – A strong setup day of singles followed by three competitive flight championships matches paid off for the University of Arkansas women’s tennis team on Monday afternoon as freshman Aurelija Miseviciute and sophomore Audrey Bordeleau were crowned singles champions at the USTA Collegiate Classic in Flushing, N.Y.

Miseviciute improved to 10-0 in her young Lady Razorback career after winning four matches in straight sets. In the championship match of the tournament’s most prestigious flight, the Lady’Back freshman downed Harvard’s Laura Peterzan, 6-1, 6-3. Miseviciute has won all but one of her matches in straight sets.

“It’s very exciting,” Miseviciute said. “College tennis is much more competitive than I ever expected. I had some very tough matches this weekend, and I’m looking forward to more at regionals.”

In the D Flight Championship match, Bordeleau battled through two rain delays to win her eighth match of the fall and 21st of her collegiate career.

The Quebec City, Quebec native defeated Boston College’s Lindsey Nash, 6-4, 6-3. At the Collegiate Classic, Bordeleau held her opponent to three games or less in five sets of her four straight-set wins.

Senior Karina Ledaja also made a run on the final day of tournament play. Across from Baylor’s Iva Mihavlova, Ledaja took a 1-0 lead in the first set of the D Flight Championship match before play was moved indoors. Once indoors, Mihavlova used the still air to her advantage as she used a strategic lob style of play to keep up with the powerful Ledaja. Mihavlova took the match, 6-3, 6-2.

“I think we were all really excited about the weekend,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “It gives us the confidence we need to take an even bigger step forward at Regionals next week.”

The Lady Razorbacks take the weekend off in preparation for their most important tournament of the fall, the ITA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah on Oct. 18-23. For more information on Arkansas women’s tennis or any other Lady Razorback sport, please visit LADYBACKS.COM.
