Miseviciute heads to finals at Indoor Championships strong day at Coaches' Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The wheels kept rolling for Arkansas’Aurelija Miseviciute at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Saturday, as she heads to the championship match on Sunday.

The Lady Razorback junior took down Baylor’s Taylor Ormond, 6-3, 6-2, in her only match of the day. With the win, Miseviciute is now set to face off against No. 21 ranked Ana Mijacika of Clemson for the championship on Sunday.

“Aurelija has been doing a great job so far this tournament,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “If she can win in the championship, it would be a great way to close out the fall season.”

Lady’Back tennis action also resumed at the SEC Fall Coaches’ Classic in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday.

In Draw A doubles consolation, senior Maryori Franco and junior Nanar Airapetian topped Mississippi State duo of Elna de Villiers and Radka Ferancova, 9-8. In Draw B doubles consolation senior Audrey Bordeleau and freshman Delia Demaschin lost to Preethi Subramanian and Nika Koukhartchouk of Ole Miss, 8-5.

In singles action the team went 2-2, unfortunately both loses were in the semifinals of Draw C.

Bordeleau dropped a tough match to Samantha Orlin of Tennessee, 7-5, 6-3, while Demaschin lost her semifinal match to Georgia’s Cameron Ellis, 6-3, 7-5.

However, the Lady’Back did earn two wins in consolation play.

Airapetian topped Paulina Bigos of Alabama, 6-2, 5-7, 10-4 (super tiebreaker), in Draw B, while in Draw D consolation, sophomore Melissa Hoffmeister toppled Elise Wettermark from Alabama, 6-1, 7-5, to conclude singles action on Saturday.

“We had a good day even though we dropped two tough matches in the semifinals,” Hegarty said. “It was a good strong day in consolation, and it was really good to see our players working hard on Day 3 of a long tournament.”
