Miseviciute keeps rolling in 4-3 loss to No. 16 William & Mary

FAYETTEVILLE – A day removed from the nation’s most loving holiday, the 24th ranked Lady Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas dropped a heartbreaker to No. 16 William and Mary, 4-3, on Friday.

The loss marks Arkansas’ fourth in row, all to top 20 opponents with a 4-3 score, as they look to get back to their winning ways on Sunday against North Carolina State at 11 a.m.

“This was another close loss to an Elite Eight type team, but we are very thrilled to be playing tough opponents like William & Mary,” said Lady’Back head coach Michael Hegarty. “It shows how close we are to other top teams.”

The Lady’Backs, 4-4,gained early momentum after capturing the doubles point taking a 1-0 lead.

Number 45 Maryori Franco and Nanar Airapetian began things by dominating No. 46 Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic, 8-5.

“Our play on Court 1 in doubles was phenomenal, I am really proud of Maryori and Nanar,” Hegarty said.

The clincher came when No. 12 Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder toppled Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and Barabara Zidem, 8-5, giving Arkansas the advantage.

The Tribe of William & Mary, 6-3,would not stay down long dashing to four straight singles wins to clinch the match.

Miseviciute, ranked No. 1 in the nation, came back in fine fashion for a victory over 12th-ranked Moulton-Levy, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Senior Audrey Bordeleau claimed her 7th successful win of the season with a, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, three set victory over Zidek.

On Court 3, 55th-ranked Ragini Acharya triumphed over Kaluder, 6-4, 6-1, to square the match back at one. William & Mary gained a 2-1 lead as Lauren Sabacinski defeated Delia Damaschin, 6-1, 6-3. On Court 4, Kasztelaniec defeated Airapetian, 6-4, 6-2, putting William & Mary, 6-3, one win away from taking the match. Freshman Anouk Tigu, playing on Court 2 for the first time this season, dropped her match to Zoricic in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, clinching the match for the Tribe.

Hegarty noticed factors his team needs to improve on in order to turn the tables in such close loses.

“Playing against such tough competition really shows areas of concern for us in glaring fashion, it’s up to us to address them,” Hegarty said.
