Miseviciute primed for title at ITA National Indoors

FAYETTEVILLE – Defending singles champion, Aurelija Miseviciute, heads the field from the University of Arkansas at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. beginning Thursday.

Miseviciute will be competing as the No. 1 overall seed in singles, while teammates Nanar Airapetian and Anouk Tigu will be in action in the doubles bracket.

“We are very excited for Aurelija (Miseviciute), Anouk (Tigu) and Nanar (Airapetian) heading to the National Individual Indoor,” said Razorback head coach Michael Hegarty. “It’s a fantastic field and a great reward for an extremely successful fall season for the whole team."

Miseviciute dominated her opponents this time a year ago in route to claiming the National Indoor Singles Championship. She is currently 11-1 for the fall season, while the next singles victory will mark her 100th career win as a Razorback. Miseviciute is tied for 5th on the all-time singles wins list at Arkansas with Andrea Ho.

“It’s a very fun tournament to be at and I am looking forward to playing some good matches this week,” said Miseviciute. “I hope I can play more than one match, but right now I’m just concentrating on taking it one at a time and not on defending my title.”

Miseviciute, ranked No.1 nationally, will face No. 43 Kelcy Tefft from Notre Dame on Thursday with a time to be announced.

Airapetian and Tigu come into this event with a 7-2 overall record. The duo is riding a five match win-streak after claiming the ITA Central Region Doubles Championship to qualify for the ITA Nation Indoors. They will take on Duke’s Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson, ranked No. 3 overall.

In other Razorback women’s tennis action, senior Ela Kaluder along with freshmen Emily Carbone and Kate Lukomskaya will compete in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic beginning on Friday at 9 a.m.

Kaluder will be competing in Flight A, while Carbone and Lukomskaya will play in Flight C.
