Miseviciute's season ends with NCAA singles semis

TULSA, Okla. – Top-seeded Lady Razorback Aurelija Miseviciute saw her fantastic 2008 season come to an end at the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships on Sunday, 7-6(2), 6-4, against 25th-ranked Zuzana Zemenova of Baylor.

Miseviciute’s season ends with a record of 52-6 in singles, standing as the most ever wins in a season by a Lady’Back or Razorback tennis student-athlete.

Zemenova, the 2005 NCAA Singles Champion, led much of the first-set before eventually claiming the set in a tiebreaker, before claiming the second set, 6-4, and advancing to the finals on Monday.

Although Miseviciute’s junior season is over, but it does not go without much notice. Miseviciute vaulted from a ranking of 119 in the fall to No. 1 in the spring, where she stayed much of the time. She was named unanimously to the All Southeastern Conference First-Team to go along with SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Her efforts this season were not only on an individual level but a team surrounding as well. She led the University of Arkansas to its first ever SEC Western Division title and Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Team Championships.

Zemenova advances to Monday’s 2:00 p.m. championship match against Sunday’s winner of Fani Chifchieva and Amanda McDowell.
