Nation’s top score moves UA to No. 7

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In Friday’s win over No. 12 Kentucky, Arkansas’ gymnastics team posted the top score in the nation for the week with a 196.750 and moved up from No. 10 in the nation to No. 7.

The Razorbacks have faced a top 20 team all four weeks in 2010, beating Arizona and Kentucky, and falling to Florida and Alabama. Arizona is currently No. 18 and Kentucky No. 11. Alabama is No. 1 and Florida No. 3.

In the event rankings, Arkansas is No. 3 on beam, No. 5 on bars, No. 6 on floor and No. 15 on vault.

Individually, Arkansas is the only school in the nation with three student-athletes ranked among the top 12 in the all-around category. Sophomore Jaime Pisani is tied for No. 7, Amy DeFilippo is No. 11 and Casey Jo Magee is No. 12. On bars, Magee is tied for No. 17 and Pisani is No. 22. On beam, Sarah Nagashima is tied for No. 19. On floor, Pisani is tied for No. 8 and DeFilippo tied for No. 26.

In the South Central Region, Arkansas is No. 2 in the overall team rankings. The Razorbacks are No. 1 on beam, No. 2 on floor, No. 3 on bars and No. 4 on vault.

On vault, DeFilippo is No. 6, Pisani No. 7 and Amanda Siebert No. 10. On bars, Magee is tied for No. 4, Pisani is No. 6 and DeFilippo is No. 9. On beam, Nagashima is No. 4, DeFilippo is No. 8, and Magee and Pisani tied for No. 9. On floor, Pisani is No. 2, DeFilippo No. 5, Magee No. 9 and Kelci Lewis tied for No. 10.

The Razorbacks are back home this week, hosting No. 16 Auburn in Barnhill Arena on Friday at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, co-head coaches Mark and René Cook will meet with fans for a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Fayetteville Country Club to preview the meet.

Additional luncheons are scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month throughout the season.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 and the coaches will speak around noon. Student-athletes may be able to attend some of the luncheons.

The meal costs $12, and includes food with a choice of three entrees, drink and tip.

The Auburn meet is being presented by Fayetteville Health & Rehab. The first 1,000 fans receive Tyson Foods Trading Cards, there will be a UA student drawing for a Blu-Ray player, gymnasts will meet with fans and sign autographs after the meet and all kids are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.

As part of National Girl & Women in Sports Day, Dr. Mary Ann Turner will be recognized as a pioneer of women’s gymnastics on the West Coast.
