FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas’ Kesha Naylor was honored as the Southeastern Conference Diver of the Week after finishing first in three events over the weekend and helping the Razorbacks to a win over Utah on Saturday, Dec. 4.
Naylor, a freshman from Saskatchewan, Canada, battled one of the toughest travel weekends of the fall when she stepped off the plane Friday afternoon to dive a career-best mark of 305.4 on the three-meter board against Brigham Young and place second. She led on the one-meter springboard with 266.33 in Arkansas’ 125-118 loss to the Cougars.
"I am extremely pleased with Kesha’s performance this past weekend," diving coach Dale Schultz said, "especially considering the difficult travel schedule. I’m excited about her level of maturity and looking forward to seeing her improve the rest of the season."
Naylor came back to sweep the one and three-meter events against Utah on Saturday morning. Her scores throughout the weekend were each zone qualifying marks and keep her in the top 10 in the SEC for both events.
The freshman has earned NCAA Zone qualifying marks in at least one of her events at every meet so far this season.
The Razorbacks wrap up the first half of the season with a 6-1 overall record, 2-1 SEC. The Razorback swimmers head to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for a week-long training trip Dec. 17-23, while the divers will train at USA Diving’s National Training Center in Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
