FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ contingent at the RazorRacket Invitational had a good day during Friday’s opening day of the individual draw tournament with each player winning at least once. Sophomore Andrei Nicoara advanced in the Flight A bracket with a pair of victories, both decided in 10-point tiebreakers. He beat Mark Finnegan of Memphis, 6-4, 5-7 (10-5), in the first round and knocked off Tom de’Larzac of Saint Louis in the quarterfinals, 7-6, 2-6 (12-10). Nicoara faces Oklahoma State’s Thomas Bohunicky on Saturday. Freshman Michael Jung won his first match, 6-3, 6-3, over Marcos Queiroz of Southwest Missouri State, but was knocked out in the second round by Dante Cipulli of Southwest Baptist, 6-0, 6-4. Senior Talley Parker advanced to the quarterfinals of Flight B with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Umair Qayyam of Oral Roberts. In doubles, Parker and Nicoara lost in the first round to Queiroz and Rodrigo Borgus of Southwest Missouri, 8-5. Meanwhile, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association ICY/Hot All-American at Chattanooga, Tenn., junior Adrians Zguns was eliminated with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 loss to G.D. Jones of Illinois. Zguns, ranked No. 10 in the nation, lost to UCLA’s Alberto Francis in the first round, 6-2, 6-2. Francis is ranked No. 37 and Jones No. 111. Saturday’s play at the RazorRacket Invitational, which is taking place at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center and the UA Outdoor Tennis Complex, begins at 9 a.m.
