NORMAN, Okla. – The top-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team fired a first round 290 and is tied for seventh-place after first-round action at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla., Saturday.
Arkansas is 13 strokes behind round one leader No. 10 Mississippi State who posted a three-under 277 to start off the tournament at the Belmar Golf Club.
Sophomore Summar Roachell opened with an even par 70 to lead Arkansas on Saturday. Roachell, a Conway, Ark., native, is tied for 11th overall. Roachell opened with a birdie on the first home and played the next 11 holes even. She finished her round with two birdies and two bogeys on the day.
Junior Regina Plasencia is tied for 22nd overall shooting a one-over 71, followed by countrywoman Gabriela Lopez who is tied for 35th with a three-over 73. Transfer Samantha Marks and freshman Jordy LaBarbera are tied for 67th with 76 and freshman Alana Uriell, playing as an individual, is tied for 89th overall with 85.
Plasencia, a Guadalajara, Mexico, native, opened her round with five consecutive pars and she turned one-over through the first nine holes. Plasencia played the back nine even with a birdie and a bogey on the second nine.
Lopez, a Mexico City, Mexico, native turned two over and got it back with a birdie on the 14th hole to finish three-over for her round.
As a team, Arkansas counted eight birdies in the round. The Razorbacks have two more rounds with play continuing through Monday at the Schooner Fall Classic.

The Field: No. 10 Mississippi State leads the field with a first-day 277. The rest of the field includes No. 53 SMU with 282, No. 28 Texas A&M and No. 8 LSU with 283, No. 39 California with 285, No. 60 Kent State with 287 and Arkansas, tied with No. 32 Notre Dame with 290. In ninth place is No. 20 UCF with 292, followed by No. 26 Florida State with 293, No. 87 Clemson with 282, No. 111 Baylor with 293, No. 46 Texas Tech with 294, No. 37 Texas with 295, No. 76 TCU and host Oklahoma with 296 and No. 88 Texas State rounds out the field with 298 in the first round.
Arkansas excelled on the par fives playing those holes 1-under for the day averaging 4.93 strokes, tying for second in the field.
Arkansas is tied for fifth against the field on the par fours and they are tied for eighth on the par threes after one round.
