No. 2 Arkansas Hosts Mini Conference Bout

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Conference Indoor Championship may not be returning to Fayetteville this season, but Razorback fans will have the opportunity to watch the No. 2 Arkansas women’s track and field team face off against several conference foes this weekend at the Razorback Invitational.

The only regular season collegiate track and field meet to be broadcast on live television in the history of the sport, the Razorback Invitational will feature 10 SEC powers, including No. 3 Georgia, No. 5 Florida, No. 7 LSU, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 24 South Carolina, Auburn, Mississippi State, Missouri and Texas A&M. Additionally, fourth-ranked Southern California, 14th-ranked Oklahoma State and Wake Forest will also be making the trip this weekend to Northwest Arkansas.

Events to Watch
Mile Invitational: Battle of the cross country All-Americans, Karissa Schweizer (Missouri) and Taylor Werner (Arkansas). Schweizer, who won the individual NCAA cross country title last fall, already currently leads the country in the 5K.
Pole Vault: Top five entries in the event, Lexi Weeks (Arkansas), Tori Weeks (Arkansas), Lindsey Murray (Ole Miss), Desiree Freier (Arkansas) and Emily Gunderson (Texas A&M) all rank inside the NCAA top-10 best in the event so far this season.
Pentathlon: Mini Nationals round one. The defending NCAA runner-up, Taliyah Brooks (Arkansas) takes on the defending NCAA champion, Kendell Williams (UGA), in the first of three bouts this season.
DMR & 1,600 relays: Friday night’s DMR will see the Razorbacks go head-to-head with the Cowgirls as both teams look to lock in a national-qualifying time. Arkansas’ loaded team is set to feature current mile national contenders Nikki Hiltz and Therese Haiss. Southern California heads into Saturday’s 1,600 relay with the top time in the NCAA and is certain to be challenged by all of the SEC sprint squads.

Additional Promising Match-Ups
New to the 800-meter run, Damajahnee Birch will be pushed in the invitational section of the event by All-American middle distance runner Savannah Camacho of Oklahoma State.

Arkansas can also expect a trio of solid times in the 3,000 invitational led by upperclassmen Valerie Reina and Regan Ward who will be joined by SEC cross country Freshman of the Year Abby Gray.

Arkansas will open up competition at 11:45 a.m. on Friday with the women’s pentathlon 60-meter hurdles. Fans can join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #RazorbackInvite.

Saturday’s live broadcast on the SEC network will open up with the men’s 400 invitational at 1:02 p.m. CT.
