FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 2 University of Arkansas women’s track and field team begins the qualifying process for the national meet this weekend at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin. The preliminary event will be held May 28-30 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Razorbacks have 24 total entries and will be represented by 17 student-athletes and their 4×400-meter relay team.

The top-12 qualifiers in each event from the two preliminary meets advance to compete June 10-13 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. The NCAA East Preliminary is also being contested this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. In Tuesday’s release of the USTFCCCA Top 25, the Razorbacks are down one spot to No. 2 based solely on qualifiers for this weekend’s preliminary meets.

The trio of Sandi Morris (pole vault), Dominique Scott (10,000m) and Chrishuna Williams (800m) enters the meet as the region’s top-ranked performer in their respective events. Morris leads a quartet of Arkansas entries in the pole vault while Scott is set to compete at 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Williams will be joined in the 800-meter field by teammate Rebekka Simko.

The Razorbacks have three entries at 5,000 meters with Scott, Diane Robison and Valerie Reina and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with top-10 performers Jessica Kamilos, Shannon Klenke and Regan Ward. Multi-event standouts Alex Gochenour and Taliyah Brooks are both slated to compete in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump. See full list below of entries and their schedules.

Arkansas is one of 11 top-25 teams competing at the NCAA West Preliminary including six top-10 teams. The Razorbacks will be joined by No. 1 USC, No. 4 Oregon, No. 7 and host Texas, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Kansas State, No. 11 Texas Tech, No. 12 Baylor, No. 14 Stanford, No. 24 Oklahoma State and No. 25 Kansas. Arkansas is also one of three teams from the SEC in the West region with Texas A&M and Missouri.

Along with their preliminary duties in individual events, Brooks and Gochenour have already secured spots at the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon. Gochenour is ranked fifth in the nation with her score of 6,027 points while Brooks tallied 5,681 points at the SEC Championships to secure her place among the field of 24.
