FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss held Arkansas to its lowest point total ever in a Southeastern Conference game as the No. 20 Rebels knocked off the Razorbacks, 53-48, Wednesday in Bud Walton Arena.
The loss dropped Arkansas to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in the SEC. The last time Arkansas started 0-2 in league play was 1996-97 when the Hogs dropped their first two conference games before winning four straight on the way to an 18-14 finish.
In the loss to the Rebels (14-1, 2-0), Arkansas matched its season low for field goals (17), shot a season-low 31.5 percent and had a season-low three assists while turning the ball over 16 times.
Defense kept the Razorbacks in the game as Arkansas limited Ole Miss to 35 percent shooting, held a 42-38 rebounding edge and recorded a season-high eight blocked shots.
UA led 35-27 with 13:42 to play on a tip-in by Alonzo Lane, who had a season-high 17 points, but the Hogs scored just seven points over the next 13 minutes as the Rebels built a 49-42 lead with 51 seconds to play.
A pair of Brandon Dean three-pointers got Arkansas within 51-48 with nine seconds to go, but David Sanders’ two free throws clinched the win for Ole Miss.
Lane was the only Razorback in double figures. Dean and Jannero Pargo added nine each. Dionisio Gomez had a career-high four blocked shots and matched his season high with eight rebounds.
Sanders led Ole Miss with 12 points while Aaron Harper and Rahim Lockhart scored 11 each.
Arkansas plays at Vanderbilt on Saturday in a 3 p.m. game to be televised regionally by CBS.
