No. 9 Arkansas Primed For National Competition
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Following a strong showing in their lone home meet of the season, the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Festival, No. 9 Arkansas heads north to the site of the 2018 NCAA Championships at Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis. for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Friday, Sept. 28.
In just nine years, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour has established itself as one of the nation’s premier collegiate meets. The 10th-annual event is set for Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, two weeks before the 2018 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, which Arkansas will also attend. The highlight of the event an 8-kilometer men’s race and a 6-kilometer women’s race. The event also includes “B’ races for both men and women. All races will be held on the beautiful Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which opened in 2009 and is located adjacent to University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. This year’s Nuttycombe meet will consist of two races per gender, the women’s “B” race will take place at 11 a.m. with the women’s “A” race slated to begin at 12:20 p.m.
Thirty-nine teams are scheduled to partake in the women’s race, which includes 15 ranked teams; Of those 15 ranked teams, seven are listed in the top-10.
The Razorbacks remained at their current position as the No. 9 team in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll, announced Tuesday. Arkansas remained the top-ranked team in the South Central Region for the fourth-straight week.
Making her Arkansas debut in winning fashion, Razorback freshman Katrina Robinson took home SEC Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week honors following her performance this past weekend at Agri Park.
Robinson captured the individual title at the 30th annual Chile Pepper Festival this past weekend in Fayetteville. In her first race on American soil, Robinson crossed the line a full 13-seconds ahead of the next competitor running a time of 16:15.3 over the 5K course at Agri Park. Robinson’s time is the second-fastest in the SEC this season over 5K.
