No. 17 Lady Razorbacks look to advance in NCAA Tournament

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The 17th-ranked University of Arkansas Lady Razorback tennis team will look to add to an incredible 2008 season on Friday against No. 46 Wake Forest in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.

“We’ve had a very solid week of preparation entering this weekend’s tournament,” said Lady’Back head coach Michael Hegarty.

The Lady’Backs, 15-9 overall, will look to advance into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001 against the Demon Decons. Wake Forest is 8-13 overall and are currently on an eight-match losing streak.

This will be the team’s second appearance in the tournament under Hegarty, 2008 Southeastern Coach of the Year, with the first coming in 2006. Arkansas passed the first two rounds and into the Sweet 16 back in 1998.

Arkansas’ last match came on Apr. 19 in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament against No. 2 Georgia.

“We’re coming off a strong showing at the SEC Tournament, and we hope to build upon that starting Friday,” Hegarty said.
