No. 17 men's cross fourth Wisconsin

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With a 17th-place finish from freshman Solomon Haile, the No. 17 Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country team finished fourth in the team standings at the 8,000-meter Wisconsin adidas Invitational.

Syracuse won the team race with 41 points, No. 10 Georgetown was second with 60 points and No. 4 Wisconsin rounded out the top three teams with 94 points. The Razorbacks scored 174 points and Arkansas was the highest finisher among SEC teams.

"Our kids gave a good effort across the board," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "We have to run within our physical capabilities during the first half of the race. We went out a little too fast and it cost us in the end. Collectively, we must run smarter while continuing to improve our race fitness these next four weeks. Also, having Dorian Ulrey in the line-up at Chile Pepper for the first time this season will help. We also had to keep Eric Fernandez out because of a sore leg."

For the second meet in his young career, Haile was Arkansas’ top finisher. He was also the top finisher at the Arkansas Invitational where he won the four-mile race. In Madison, Haile clocked a time of 24:25.2. He finished 17th overall, second among SEC runners and fifth among all freshmen runners. He was also the top SEC freshman finisher.

Junior Lane Boyer was Arkansas’ second finisher for the second time this season and 20th overall with an 8K time of 24:31.4. Junior Michael Chinchar was 31st overall and third among the team, his best finish among the Razorbacks this season. He clocked a time of 24:47.5.

Senior Rio Reina finished 62nd. He was fourth among the Razorbacks with an 8,000-meter time of 25:17.8. Sophomore Rick Elliott rounded out the Arkansas scorers with his 68th-place finish and time of 25:21.4.

Also competing for Arkansas were junior Patrick Russell (76th, 25:28.7), freshman Aaron Hamilton (87th, 25:43.8) and freshman Cameron Efurd (97th, 26:04.5).

The Razorbacks will compete next when they host the Chile Pepper Festival, Sat., Oct. 17. For more information, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com or chilepepperfestival.org.
