Non-Conference Continues With a Trip to Florida

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a successful opener in California, the University of Arkansas softball team travels to the east coast this weekend for the Madeira Beach Invitational in Florida. The Razorbacks open the non-conference tournament with games Friday against Marist and Manhattan.

Weekend Game Notes

Against the Field
Arkansas owns a combined 4-0 record against the field at this weekend’s Madeira Beach Invitational. The Razorbacks are 2-0 vs McNeese with 1-0 marks against Marist and Villanova. Delaware and Manhattan are two of seven first-time opponents on this year’s schedule.

Weekend Recap
The Razorbacks went 5-0 to open their season at the Mary Nutter Classic. The tally including victories over #21 Utah and Fordham, both of which played in last year’s NCAA Regional round. The offense was bolstered by seven home runs over five games in the desert.

Nice Start, Mary
Behind a 3-0 start to her career and 31 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work, Mary Haff was named the SEC Freshman of the Week (Feb. 19). She also tallied a save, held hitters to a .095 batting average and only issued two walks in four appearances. Against Fordham, Haff recorded 12 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. She is Arkansas’ first Freshman of the Week since 2012.

Linnie Says Bye…Twice
Freshman Linnie Malkin began her Razorback career with a home run in each of her first two at-bats. Against Grand Canyon, she opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the second and followed with a solo shot in the fourth frame. Malkin also had the game-winning, RBI single in the seventh inning of Arkansas’ 6-5 comeback win over Loyola Marymount.

Welcome Home
A pair of Razorbacks will be playing in their home state this weekend at the Madeira Beach Invitational in Florida. A.J. Belans (Hollywood) and Mary Haff (Winter Haven) are the Razorbacks’ native Floridians.
