Norton signs with Puerto Rico pro team
FAYETTEVILLE — Jasmine Norton will extend her volleyball career having signed a professional contract Monday. She will join former Razorback teammate Janeliss Torres-Lopez as a member of Leonas de Ponce of the Puerto Rico Superior League. Norton is the third former Arkansas standout to sign a professional contract along with Torres-Lopez and Roslandy Acosta. For her work during the 2012 season, Norton was recognized as an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America performer. She is the first player in program history to earn two All-America honors during her career. She was previously selected following her freshman season in 2009. Norton also earned AVCA All-South Central honors and was named to the All-SEC Second Team, the fourth all-conference selection of her career. Norton wrapped her Razorback career as the second-most prolific attacker in program history and No. 8 on the SEC’s all-time list with 1,799 career kills. In a show of her all-round performance during her four years in Fayetteville, she became just the sixth player in program history to collect 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during her career. Norton finished her collegiate career with 1,130 digs, the fifth-highest total in program history. During her senior season, Norton registered 3.65 kills per set and 3.04 digs per set. Norton led Arkansas with 16 double-doubles in 2012 and had at least 10 kills in 14 of the Razorbacks’ last 15 matches of the season. She helped lead the Razorbacks
to the NCAA Tournament, breaking the program’s six-year absence from the national tournament. Norton capped her career with 16 kills, 13 digs and five total blocks against Wichita State. Norton is no stranger to international volleyball as she spent time prior to the 2012 season in China as a member of USA/BIP Development Team at the 2nd Annual China-USA Challenge. During the summer tour, she competed against Chinese professional teams from Liaoning, Shanghai and Tianjin. Norton was part of the team along with Arkansas head coach Robert Pulliza.
