Nunn survives rain delayed round

ROGERS, Ark. – University of Arkansas senior-to-be Lucy Nunn battled bad weather and tough conditions in a two-day first round at the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., Friday and Saturday. Nunn was the low qualifier for the event on Monday shooting a two-under 70 earning a spot in her first LPGA event. She was scheduled for the late tee time Friday at 2:11 p.m., but morning rains delayed the start five hours pushing Nunn back to 7:11 p.m. The Lawton, Okla., native got about four holes in before darkness halted play. Nunn was back at the course for a 6:45 a.m. tee time Saturday starting play under dark clouds with distant thunder. The weather moved in suspending play for about an hour and a half before Nunn and the rest of the field could complete the first round. Nunn’s round was higher than she would like counting an 82 over two days. But there was little time to worry about the score as she faced a 1:30 p.m. tee time Saturday for her second round. Nunn hopes to be in the top 70 as those players will make the cut for the final round Sunday. Former Arkansas teammate Stacy Lewis posted a three-under 69 Friday in a complete, although delayed, round. Lewis’ second round tee time is 5:20 p.m. Saturday.
