NWA native joins Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Chris Bucknam, the head coach of the Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field program, has announced the addition of in-state jumps standout Micah Washington for the 2009-10 season.

"Micah Washington is a local guy who will bring a lot to our program," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "He’s a tough competitor and will play an important role in our jumps crew. He shows a lot of potential in all three jumps and we are excited he’s decided to join our program."

Washington is a native of Fort Smith, Ark. and is a graduate of Southside High School. He holds personal bests of 6-10.5 in the high jump and 44-11.5 in the triple jump. He also competes in the long jump. His high jump best of 6-10.5 was the No. 7 in the US during the 2009 indoor season.

At the 2009 Arkansas Indoor State Championships, he won the high jump (6-10.5) and earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump (44-7). At the 2009 Arkansas Outdoor State Championships, he won the high jump (6-4), was bronze in the long jump (21-6) and won the triple jump (44-8.5).

He was named to the All-Arkansas track and field team in the high jump and the triple jump. In addition to his state titles, he was also the 2009 Arkansas Meet of Champs winner in the high jump and the triple jump.

Washington joins Omar Abdi (Charlestown, Ma.; distance), Reid Brasher (Ruston, La.; javelin), Drew Butler (The Woodlands, Texas; middle distance), Max Carroll (Shawnee, Kan.; javelin), Caleb Cross (Newport, Ark.; hurdles), Cameron Efurd (Rogers, Ark.; distance), Solomon Haile (Silver Spring, Md.; distance), Raymond Higgs (Freeport, Bahamas; jumps), Alex Kelly (Ottumwa, Iowa; sprints) and Chris Muncie (El Paso, Texas; sprints) as the new members of the Razorback squad for 2009-10.
