FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 19th-ranked University of Arkansas men’s golf team will once again face a strong field as the Razorbacks travel to the Alabama for the 33rd-annual Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, played at the par-70, 7,209-yard Old Overton Country Club.
Last season, Mason Overstreet posted a 10-under-par 200 to claim his first collegiate medalist honor. The 54-hole score of 200 ranks as the second-lowest, three-round total in school history. He carded back-to-back rounds of 5-under 65 and posted an even par 70 in the final round. Thanks to Overstreet’s 65 in round two, as well as a 66 by William Buhl and 69 by Luis Garza, the Razorback’s posted a team score of 269, the fourth-lowest in school history.
This marks the eighth time Arkansas has played in the event dating back to the fall of 1993. This year’s field features four of the nation’s top 20 teams including host and third-ranked Alabama, #14 Auburn, #18 UNLV and the 19th-ranked Razorbacks.
“We have played well here in the past and Mason won here last year,” said head coach Brad McMakin. “Old Overton is a big golf course and fits our steam well. I look forward to a great week.”
Overstreet, Buhl and Garza are all have scoring averages below 72 this season and all three have two top 20 finishes. Tyson Reeder has a scoring average of 72.11 and leads the team in pars with 109 in three events this season. Julian Perico owns a 72.22 scoring average, ranks third on the team in birdies (27) and second on the team in pars (105).
