Parker Named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior offensive guard Stephen Parker was honored on Monday as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Razorbacks’ 44-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe last weekend.The award marks the sixth-consecutive game in which Arkansas has earned at least one individual SEC honor this season.

Parker graded out at team-high 98 percent and tallied a season-high eight knockdowns in the win. He carded a 96-percent blocking clip on running plays and a perfect 100-percent mark on passing plays. He played a team-high 52 snaps and helped the Razorbacks rack up 428 yards of total offense including 331 yards on the ground. Parker and his teammates cleared the way for 100-yard rushing performances from Felix Jones (141) and Darren McFadden (129).

“I am pleased that Stephen was recognized for his efforts last weekend,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “Stephen was very solid against Louisiana-Monroe and has been a mainstay on the left side of our line for several years. He is one of several guys on our offensive front that could’ve have won that award this week. Our entire offensive line has been playing extremely well.”

Parker has started all eight games at left guard this season and is part of an offensive front that leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the nation allowing only 0.75 sacks per game. Arkansas continues to pace the league and ranks fifth nationally in rushing yards per game (235.38).

Parker is the seventh Razorback to be recognized by the SEC this season. Mitch Mustain was named freshman of the week following the Hogs’ win at Vanderbilt. Randy Kelly won defensive honors for his efforts in Arkansas’ double-overtime win over Alabama. Jonathan Luigs and Jamaal Anderson won offensive and defensive lineman of the week, respectively, in the wake of the Razorbacks’ upset of No. 2 Auburn. Keith Jackson captured defensive lineman honors for his play against Southeast Missouri State. Felix Jones garnered special teams’ player of the week accolades for his 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Ole Miss.
