FAYETTEVILLE – After the Razorback women’s tennis team completed its upset of No. 4 Notre Dame, its biggest since the ’08 season, sophomore Claudine Paulson was recognized as the SEC Player of the Week on Wednesday by the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. This honor is the second conference honor for Paulson in her career. Last year, she earned one SEC Freshman of the Week award.
“Claudine has worked extremely hard this year and this recognition is well deserved,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “We are pleased for her and expect more awards for her in the future.”
Paulson along with teammate Anouk Tigu were very instrumental in helping win the doubles point against No. 41 Utah and No. 4 Notre Dame last weekend at the ITA Kickoff. Against Utah, they were the clinching doubles match and against Notre Dame were the first team to win their match, giving Arkansas much needed momentum into singles for the upset win.
Overall on the weekend, Paulson went 3-1 in both doubles and singles. Her one loss is the first for her this spring in singles play. All of her singles matches have been at the No. 3 position and puts her at 6-1 in 2011. In doubles, Paulson and Tigu have yet to lose a match during the dual season as they are now 4-0 to start the spring, with two wins coming at the No. 1 spot and two wins at the No. 2 spot.
