Peak earns SEC honor

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas forward Keira Peak earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors the league office announced today.

Peak is a Clyattville, Ga., native and is becoming known for her defensive prowess on the court. Last week, Peak paced the Razorbacks (18-8, 5-8 SEC) to a pair of wins at Ole Miss and against LSU. The road win is the program’s first-ever victory in Oxford and the win over the Tigers completes the series sweep this year.

"I’m proud that Keira has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors," Arkansas head coach Tom Collen said. "Her contributions can sometimes go unnoticed because she doesn’t always put up big numbers in the box score. She is developing into one of the better defensive players in the SEC and it’s great to see her recognized for her play."

Peak played 54 minutes in last weeks’ games scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

She currently ranks fourth on the team in scoring averaging 5.7 points per game in SEC games. Peak is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game ranking third for the Razorbacks. Peak enters the week ranked tied for 18th in the SEC in rebounding in all games. Her numbers jump to 7.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg in all games this year.

Peak scored a career-best 16 points helping Arkansas to a win at Texas-El Paso in late November. She collected 12 rebounds in an early season win over Middle Tennessee State this year.
