Pfeifer named NSCA Strength & Conditioning All-America

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas sophomore forward Sarah Pfeifer was named to the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s 2005 All-America Strength and Conditioning Athletes team.

Arkansas (16-13) faces the preseason pick to win the Mountain West Conference, the UNLV Lady Rebels, at 7 p.m. at Walton Arena, in the opening round of the 2005 Postseason Sportsview.tv Women’s NIT.

Named the Southeastern Conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year two weeks ago, Pfeifer was nominated for the all-sport team by the Lady Razorbacks’ strength coach, J.C. Moreau.

“Sarah is the most relentless worker I have been associated with in my career,” Moreau wrote in his nomination for Pfeifer. “She is famous not only for her play and hustle, but also as the most loyal University of Arkansas sports fan on campus.”

Pfeifer leads the Lady Razorbacks in scoring with 11.8 ppg, and the redshirt sophomore was recently voted the ESPN Academic All-District second team in February.

“Even though she was limited due to reconstructive shoulder surgery, Sarah has the team’s best squat and vertical jump,” Moreau added.

The remarkable Ozark, Ark., native underwent two surgeries on her left shoulder in her first two years at Arkansas, and currently starts for the Lady Razorbacks despite chronic problems in her right shoulder.

The NSCA team included 44 basketball players, both male and female, from all divisions of college athletics. Pfeifer was the only SEC women’s basketball player on the squad, and one of 19 Division I women on the listing.
