Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach John Pelphrey

“You have to compliment Delaware State on coming out and shooting well and hustling up and down the floor. They shot lights out tonight.

“We had to make a few defensive adjustments at halftime, and we came out and did a better job in the second half. We didn’t expect Delaware State to shoot that well, so we had to slow them down.

“The front of our press played well, and guys like Sonny Weems did a great job in the back flying all over place.”

Stefan Welsh, sophomore guard

“I wanted to help the team any way possible today, and I found out early that I was going to do it shooting. I had been struggling with my jump-shot, but they were falling in today.”

Sonny Weems, senior guard

“Our defense sparked our offense today. Once we got it going, it worked real well for us. Coach (Pelphrey) has been stressing defense and minimizing turnovers a lot lately, and we did a great job of both.”

Delaware State

Head Coach Greg Jackson

“We wanted to come in today and give ourselves a chance and compete and, for about a half we did. In the second half, (Arkansas) went to a different level that we couldn’t match and wore us down with their size inside. Anyone can match up with another team for a half, but it’s difficult to maintain that level against a team like Arkansas.

“We have a very, very difficult schedule during the non-conference season. We still have Georgia and USC in front of us, so games like this give us an opportunity to get ready for conference play against high-level opponents.

“Roy (Bright) really shot the ball well today, and again, for a half he carried our team and gave us a chance to compete.”
