Post-Game Quotes

Arkansas vs. Texas State

Dec. 6, 2005

Arkansas Head Coach Stan Heath:

“Tonight was not what I expected, and I think the fans felt the same way. We didn’t play well, but you have to give Texas State a lot of credit. They showed up tonight. They executed and shot the ball very well. I was impressed with Coach Danny Nutt’s basketball team. I think we learned some lessons tonight.

“Every time we stretched the lead to 10 or 12 points they kept coming back. They were very patient on offense. They milked the clock and waited for a defensive breakdown. When we had a breakdown they would make their shots, and even when we played good defense they would come up with a big three. They would not go away. Different players kept stepping up for them.”

On Steven Hill:

“Steven [Hill] was a one-man wrecking crew tonight. He cleaned up some things we messed up. We didn’t give him a lot of help, but he didn’t need it. We think he will continue to blossom this season.”

On Darian Townes:

“We will know more tomorrow. It’s a sprained knew, but he was walking after the game. He will get some treatment and hopefully it will be good news.”

On Texas State’s 10 offensive rebounds:

“We didn’t finish possessions. We would be looking for a fast break and would give up the offensive board. We should have stayed tough. It was frustrating. We didn’t have the focus we should’ve had.”

Arkansas Center Steven Hill:

“That means a lot to me (tying the school record for blocks shots in a game). Luckily we had a size advantage and that was a big factor tonight. I don’t think we played one of our best games at all, but we’ve got to learn from this and come back after finals and get better.”

Arkansas Guard Ronnie Brewer:

“You’ve got to be satisfied with every win you get, even if it’s not your best performance it still goes in the win column. I thought he (Steven Hill) stepped up really big for us. Ten blocks is a big feat for anybody.”

Arkansas Forward Jonathon Modica

“I don’t think we played well, but we played good enough to win. It was an ugly win but it was a win.”

Texas State Head Coach Dennis Nutt

“Antwoine (Blanchard) played well for us. He played like the Antwoine we know. He’s just a solid kid.

“Arkansas is a pretty balanced team with Ronnie (Brewer) outside and (Eric) Ferguson stepping up on shooting. Stan is doing a pretty good job.”
