Post-Game Quotes

Arkansas Head Coach Stan Heath

“Well, there’s no such thing as a bad win. Tulsa fought us hard and worked their tails off. We won ugly but it was a win. Sonny Weems wasn’t there in the first half but came back in the second. He had too many turnovers. He got frustrated with his foul trouble. I think Gary Ervin played one of his best games tonight.

“Free throw shooting was the difference. We did pretty well from the line but I was disappointed in our rebounding. We didn’t get it down there.

On Steven Hill

“He worked his tail off tonight. He came up with the ball and got penetration when we needed it. He played hard and had intensity.

On Darian Townes

“Darian Townes got frustrated in the first half and he went to the locker room and stayed there. He’s an emotional guy and he knows I’m disappointed in him. We are going to have a talk later tonight.”

Arkansas Players

Steven Hill

“We could have played much better in the first half. We knew we needed to pick up the intensity. We just had a lull and it was hard to get rid of it. We played hard in the second half but we know we’ve got to play hard for the full 40 minutes. We got more momentum in the second and became a much more balanced team.”

Gary Ervin

“We came out really flat in the first half. We just played lazy. We can’t do that with an aggressive offensive team. They played great. We have to step up to the challenge and get it done the whole game. We needed to pressure more in the first half.”

Sonny Weems

“We played more like a team in the second. We know we can’t do it all by ourselves. I got frustrated with my fouls in the first half. I didn’t like being benched so much. We adjusted in the second and played much better.”

Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik

“Both teams played really well. Sonny Weems shot it great. We competed and challenged them a bit. We out-rebounded them by 10, but lost the game at the line and with turnovers. We had some kids step up. I’m real proud of (Mark) Hill and Jamel (McLean).

“One thing (Arkansas) has going for them is it’s tough to double the post from the perimeter because they can shoot the ball so well. They’ve been a second half team, so you knew they were going to dig down late.”

Tulsa Players

Guard Mark Hill

“We played hard tonight and fought our way through the game. I always look to pass first, but they over-played the pass. We guarded well tonight and played very good defense. We even out-rebounded Arkansas. We have to cut down on turnovers because they hurt us there tonight. We have to adjust and we will know what to do next time.”
