Game Quotes

Arkansas vs. Kentucky

Feb. 3, 2007

Arkansas Head Coach Stan Heath

“It seems like we got things going offensively, but both teams just shot lights out. Ramel Bradley had an outstanding game and hit big shots. We’ve got to get better at getting into an offense and getting a rhythm. Thankfully, we were able to shoot well tonight. We felt like we got the ball to the right people late in the game, but (Kentucky) made shots when they needed to.”

(On Stefan Welsh): “He had a big game and really stepped up. He was a big reason for our lead at halftime.”

(On Steven Hill): “He was aggressive with the ball and made some great moves in the paint. He had a big task ahead of him and stepped it up.”

Arkansas Center Steven Hill

“(Kentucky) slapped the press on us and we didn’t handle it very well. I don’t think we are wearing out. There is still a lot of season left. Today we had a lot of mental lapses. It hurt us not having Charles, but we had some guys step in and contribute. It seemed like whenever the big men got the ball in the second half, we were double-teamed.”

Arkansas Guard Stefan Welsh

“We had 19 turnovers again. When you have 19 turnovers you can’t win a game against a team like Kentucky. We’re very disappointed. We had a 14-point lead and had a chance to build on it. It’s real frustrating, especially after the way we battled in the first half to take the lead. We’ve got a good head on our shoulders (as a team). We will come back.

Arkansas Guard Patrick Beverley

We prepared for the press, but they didn’t throw it on us in the beginning. Then they got down and used it, and it was very effective for them. Coaches prepare us well for the press, and we’ve got to carry that preparation into the games. They have very good guards and they shoot the ball very well. They were taking deep shots, and it’s hard to defend shots like that. Once they got in their shooting rhythm, it was hard to get them out.”

Kentucky Head Coach Tubby Smith

“Today we showed our continuing inconsistency. But we settled down and bounced back. We showed great character, poise, and toughness down the stretch.”

“I was very impressed with (Patrick) Beverley. He played with such passion, heart and hustle. He is a winner.”

Kentucky Forward Randolph Morris

“We never panic when we’re down. We always stick to the game plan and dig our way out.”

Kentucky Guard Jodie Meeks

“We started getting more comfortable in the second half. In the first half we were not comfortable, but it’s a long game. We were trying to focus on playing hard. We scored any way we could score and just played hard.”

Kentucky Guard Joe Crawford

“We knew we could press and make shots and we did. We are a good team and we need to play like we’re down all the time. It shows we can come back and win.”

Kentucky Guard Ramel Bradley

“I was a little angry going into the half. I was a little upset. Our shots fell and we picked up the intensity. This was a great opportunity to get a great win at Arkansas. The game isn’t over until it’s over. There was lots of time left on the clock.”
