This is the sixth of 20 preseason features highlighting each student-athlete on the University of Arkansas volleyball team. Each day a different Razorback will draw and answer seven (out of a 15) get-to-know-you questions to give the fans a peek into their personality away from the volleyball court. The 2014 season begins Aug. 29 against Tennessee State at 7 p.m. (CT) at Barnhill Arena. Click HERE to purchase season tickets.
Day 6 (Thursday, August 14):
Freshman | L/DS | 5-5
Southlake, Texas (Carroll HS)
Q: If you could teach a class on any topic, what would it be?
Ortiz: I think it would be history because science and math are so detail oriented but with history, you have certain dates and certain people so I feel that would be a much easier class to teach.
Q: Would you rather go to a movie OR dinner by yourself?
Ortiz: I’m going to say movie because it’s dark and I wouldn’t look like a loner.
Q: What was your favorite sports team growing up?
Ortiz: The Miami Dolphins. I didn’t know anybody on the team but the dolphin has always been my favorite animal.
Q: On a perfect day, what’s your ideal high and low temperature?
Ortiz: The high temperature would be around 85 (degrees) because being from Texas, you do get acclimated to warmer weather. For the low temperature, I’d say 65. I think that’s a nice balance.
Q: What was the last selfie you took?
Ortiz: (On report day) when the team went to dinner, I took a selfie with Meredith (Hays) because we take a lot of selfies together.
Q: If you could be on any reality TV show, what would it be?
Ortiz: If this show was still running, I’d want to be on Jersey Shore. They looked like they were having a good time all the time.
Q: Other than volleyball, what sport would you want to compete in at the Olympics (summer or winter)?
Ortiz: Curling. I would be the sweeper because I feel like I could handle that intensity.
