Q&A with a Razorback Administrator: Matt Trantham

Matt Trantham joined the University of Arkansas Athletic Department as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations in June. Prior to arriving in Fayetteville, he spent nine years at the University of Oklahoma. Trantham is a native of Hot Springs, Ark., and has spent time at both the collegiate and professional levels since he graduated from Centenary College in 1990.Q: Is it coke, pop or soda?A: Coke.Q: What was your first cell phone?A: A Nokia in 1999.Q: What made you pursue this career choice?A: A business degree and love of sports.Q: What do you get out of helping athletes?A: The reward of seeing their success both on and off the field.Q: What is your main ringtone on your phone?A: The original tone that came with the phone.Q: What is your favorite pro football team?A: The San Francisco 49ers.Q: Name one of the craziest things you have ever done.A: That’s a tough call between living in the French Riviera and commercial fishing in Alaska.Q: What is your favorite part about Arkansas football?A: Game day!Q: Have you ever met anyone famous? A: My most enjoyable experience with someone famous is getting to know the actor James Garner.Q: What is your favorite amusement park ride?A: I’m not a fan of the amusement park rides, but I did enjoy the monorail at Disney World.Q: Have you ever visited any national monuments/parks? If so, which one(s)? A: Fort McHenry in Maryland and Mt. St. Helens in Washington.Q: What have you always wanted to do, but haven’t had the chance to yet?A: I’ve tried to visit all 50 states, but so far I’ve only been to 43.Q: If you could be on any TV show, what show would you want to be on? Is that a phobia?Q: What is your most memorable moment at work?A: If counting previous jobs, it would be working a Stanley Cup series, the NBA Draft and the national championship in football.
