Rain cancellations cut Hogs appearance short

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala.-With persistent rains pelting what would have been day one of the 2009 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, the decision to reduce the tournament to a single round resulted in scramble on the leader boards. Tournament host, Alabama, captured the title for the fourth consecutive year, shooting a 7-under 273. Texas followed three strokes behind with a 276. East Tennessee State and University of Nevada, Las Vegas shared the No. 3 spot with an even par 280. Louisville posted a 1-over, UAB took 6th place with a 4-over 284, Auburn followed with a 5-over and SMU was 6-over 286 at the par 70, 7,204-yard Old Overton Country Club. Hunter Hamrick took the individual title for the Alabama with a 5-under 65, after getting birdies of the final four holes of the back nine, although he was followed closely by Texas’ Cody Gribble who fired a 4-under 66 for second place.Arkansas slipped into ninth place with a 9-over 289. Jamie Marshall shot a 1-under 69 a 5-way tie for 11th place. Marshall birdied holes 4 and 9 and bogied the 10th. Austin Cook stepped into a tie for 20th after carding a 1-over 71. Josh Eure shot 4-over, Ethan Tracy 5-over, and David Lingmerth went 7-over after 3 bogeys on the front nine, a single bogey and a triple-bogey on the back. The Razorbacks will have a two-week break from competition before the return to the final event of the fall season, the Baylor Invitational Oct. 26-27.
