Razorback Linksters Start Season with The Ridg

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s golf team is set to begin the 2002 fall season with their first tournament at The Ridges Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn., on September 14-15.
Seniors Nick Beach, Drew Higginbothom, juniors Adam Wing, Andrew Dahl and Seth Murphy will represent the Hogs in the first competition.
“The first tournament is very important,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “From where we left off last year, we have made huge improvements. Everyone is back this year and getting a good start in the fall is important, because now it’s weighed just as heavily as having a good season in the spring. With this first tournament we can begin starting our quest back to a national championship.”
Ketcham noted the challenge The Ridges golf course and strength of teams in the tournament will provide for his team, and it’s a one they are excited and confident to take on.
“It’s one of the premiere collegiate golf tournaments in the country,” Ketcham said. “The field is very, very strong. I believe there are 15 teams in the field. Out of the 15 there is somewhere between seven and 10 teams that will be ranked in the top 25 throughout the year. This is a golf course that requires a lot of patience. Where the game really begins on this course is on the greens. These greens are the best we’ll see all year. If we take our putters with us we should have a lot of opportunities for birdies.
“We’re just excited. I think anytime you start a new season with new players it’s fun to see where you’re going to be. I’m a firm believer that the biggest improvement that we’ll make as a golf team will be between our first and second tournaments. I’m excited to see where we’ll be.”
Arkansas will return to the course when they travel to the Gary Koch Intercollegiate in Tampa, Fla., on October 13-15.
