Razorback Linksters to Compete at Gary Koch In
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After competing in their first fall golf tournament of the season almost a month ago, the Arkansas golf team will pick up competition again when they travel to Tampa, Fla., October 14-15, to play in the Gary Koch Intercollegiate.
“This will be an important stretch of time for us with three fall tournaments right in a row,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “We come back from Tampa, then leave four days later for SMU, come back to leave again for LSU. The schedule gap between our first two fall tournaments gave us a good idea of where we stood as a team and gave us time to address issues. We’re really looking forward to this tournament.”
Seniors Nick Beach, Seth Murphy; juniors Andrew Dahl and Adam Wing will be representing the Hogs. Freshman Paul Bradshaw will be the fifth Hog to compete. This will be Bradshaw first collegiate tournament. Wing was the Razorback’s top finisher at the The Ridges Intercollegiate last month after he shot rounds of 70, 75 and 76 for a final score of 221 to place tied for 18th.
This weekend the field will include talented competition from schools such as College of Charleston (7), LSU (88), Ohio State, Florida (4), Florida State, Rhode Island (58), Kentucky (77), Ole Miss, Tennessee, Toledo (23), North Florida, Central Florida (85), South Florida (107) and Vanderbilt (18). Arkansas will play 36 holes on Monday, October 14, and 18 holes on Tuesday October 15, at the Old Memorial golf course.
“Four of the five golfers who played in last month’s tournament will be traveling to Tampa, Fla., so we’re keeping a good team nucleus,” Ketcham said. “The golf course is very demanding, so we’re really going to have to drive the ball, and like most golf courses in Florida, there are a lot of fairway bunkers. I believe the par is a good number and in those situations we have a good chance of success.”
The Hogs will take to the greens once again at the SMU Stonebridge Intercollegiate in McKinney, Texas on October 20-22, before heading to the Country Club of ouisiana Invitational on October 27-29, in Baton Rouge, La.
