Razorback Golfers Finish Second Lochinvar Challenge
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas kicked off its 2007 spring golf schedule on Monday at the Lochinvar Challenge at the Lochinvar Golf Club in Houston, Texas.
The Lochinvar Challenge included the Razorbacks along with Lamar and Kansas State. The Cardinals came out on top with an even-par score of 288 on a windy and rainy day in Texas. The Hogs finished second with 16-over-par round of 304 while the Wildcats finished third at 28-over-par 316.
“The weather wasn’t that great with a lot of wind and rain, but I thought our guys played well,” Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said. “We took some freshman down there and I really liked the way they stepped up and played for us. I really gave us a chance to evaluate or team before the spring schedule really gets rolling.”
Allen McFerran led the way for UA with a 3-over-par round of 75 to finish fourth. Redshirt freshman Stephen Cox made his first career appearance in the Hogs’ lineup and shot a 4-over-par 76.
Sophomore transfer Andrew Landry tied Cox for fifth place with a round of 76. Italian Frederico Colombo joined the Razorbacks at semester and shot a 77 in his first action as a Hog, finishing tied for seventh. Colombo fired an even-par 36 on the front side, but ran into a little trouble on the back nine with a 41.
Redshirt freshman Dalton Owens shot 78 and finished tied for ninth place. Fellow redshirt freshman Andrew Carroll played as an individual and fired an 80 to finish 15th. It was the first career appearance for both Owens and Carroll as Razorbacks.
Arkansas continues the spring slate in John A. Burn Intercollegiate in Wahinawa, Oahu, at the Leilehua Gold Club on Feb. 21-23.
