Razorback Golfers Finish Tied for Third at CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, Calif. –– Arkansas men’s golf team went toe-to-toe with some of the nation’s best golf team’s at the CordeValle Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday and finished in a tie for third place at 5-under-par 859.

The Razorbacks shot their best score of the tournament in the final round with a 4-under-par 284 at the 7,119-yard CordeValle Country Club. The Hogs finished in a tie with California at 5-under par. It is the second top five finish for Arkansas in its four fall tournaments.

Fifth-ranked UCLA won the event with a 15-under-par total of 849 after shooting a 284 on Tuesday in the final round. No. 16 Northwestern finished second at 7-under par 857 after shooting a final-round 289 (1-over par). Texas, Arkansas’ playing partner in the final round, finished fifth with an even-par 864 for the tournament.

Michael Wilson of California ran away with medalist honors with a three-round total of 10-under-par 206. His closest competition was UCLA’s Erick Flores and Arizona’s Henry Liaw at 4-under-par 212.

Eric Shriver posted his best round of the year with a 5-under-par 67 in the final round to move him to 2-under-par for the tournament. His three-round total of 214 placed him in a tie for seventh place, which is the best finish of Shriver’s Razorback career. Shriver entered the final round in a tie for 30th after a second-round 74.

Matt Bortis closed with a 1-over-par round of 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for seventh place at 2-under-par 214 for the tournament. Bortis opened with a 68 in the first round on Monday and followed with a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. He entered the final round on Tuesday in a tie for fifth place.

Scotty Campbell bounced back from a disappointing second-round 79 (7-over par) with a season-best 69 (3-under par) in Tuesday’s final round. The 69 was good enough to place Campbell in a tie for 30th in the event.

Beau Glover shot a final round 75 (3-over par) to finish in a tie for 34th place. Glover fired a 5-under-par 67 in the second round to move into a tie for 22nd place after the first day. He shot a 78 in the opening round.

Josh Farrell shot a 7-over-par round of 79 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 12-over total of 228. Farrell posted a 4-over-par 76 in Monday evening’s second round after an opening round 73 that included a hole-in-one on the second hole.

The CordeValle Collegiate was the Hogs’ final tournament of the fall season. Arkansas begins their spring season on Feb. 8-10, 2006, in Waikoloa, Hawai’i at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate.
