Razorback Netters Downed by DePaul 6-1

CHICAGO, Ill. – No. 30 Arkansas lost a tough doubles point, and the young Razorbacks lost at No. 71 DePaul, 6-1, at the Lakeshore Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill.

The loss is the third consecutive for the Razorbacks (1-3), who were set to play Chicago St. at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Blake Strode provided the Hogs’ lone point against the Blue Demons. The 57th-ranked sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. notched a win at No. 1 singles against George Wang, 7-6, 6-4. Strode improves to 11-4 on the season and 2-1 in dual matches.

In other singles action, Arkansas, which featured three true freshman in its lineup, were swept by the Blue Demons. Andrei Nicoara, the Hogs’ only senior, forced a third set on court five before falling to Alasdair Graetz, 6-0,4-6,6-3. Freshman Dmitry Vlaskin won his opening set against Jack Komar, but could not hang out on court six, losing, 6-7,6-3,6-2.

Arkansas won the first doubles match off the court, with Strode and Colin Mascall claiming a, 8-6, victory over Austin Doerner and Jose Moncada at No. 1 doubles. DePaul fought back to claim the other two doubles contests and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Strode and Mascall improved to 3-0 at No. 1 doubles on the season.
