JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The Arkansas men’s golf program will be well-represented in the 114th U.S. Amateur when play gets underway on Monday at the Atlanta Athletic Club’s Highlands and Riverside Courses, as a total of five current and former Razorbacks will be in the 312-player field.
Juniors Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria along with redshirt sophomore Zach Coats and redshirt freshman Alec Tahy make up the four current Razorbacks while 2013 graduate Blake Biddle rounds out the five participants.
The field of 312 players will be cut to 64 after two rounds of stroke play. With such a large field, the stroke play portion will be split between the Highlands Course and the Riverside Course on Monday and Tuesday. Match play will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the 36-hole championship match scheduled for Aug. 17.
Four of the five Razorbacks made their way into the field through sectional qualifiers, while Echavarria earned an exemption due to winning the Mexican Amateur. Echavarria cruised to the win at the Mexican Amateur, defeating the field by 12 strokes to start a summer that has also featured top 20 finishes at the Western Amateur and Sunnehanna Amateur.
Moore will be making his third straight appearance at the U.S. Amateur after finishing as the top qualifier at Texarkana Country club in Texarkana, Ark. Coats qualified at Blue Hills Country Club in Kansas City, while Tahy earned his spot in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, at Miami Valley Golf Club and Biddle qualified at Heritage Bluffs Golf Course in Channahon, Ill.
