@RazorbackMGolf Turns In Strong Finish To SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Behind stellar rounds of six-under par 64 from senior Sebastian Cappelen and a five-under 65 by sophomore Taylor Moore, the No. 19 Arkansas men’s golf team shot a program SEC Championship record 275 in Sunday’s final round to finish in a tie for sixth place at the Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course. Cappelen’s bogey-free 64 was not only a career-low and the lowest round of the day, but also equaled the program SEC Championship record set in 1995 by Bud Still, also in the third round. Cappelen and Still are the only two Razorbacks to win the SEC individual title, while Cappelen’s 65 pushed him up 23 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 13th place, good for his third career top 15 at the SECs. Moore’s 65 was also a career-low, as he carded eight birdies on the day to jump from a tie for 47th to a tie for 26th place. Behind Cappelen and Moore’s final rounds and sophomore Nicolas Echavarria’s first round four-under 66, the Razorbacks turned in the three of the five lowest scores in program history at the SEC Championship over the weekend. Arkansas’ three-round 280(E)-287-275(-5)/842 put it in a tie for sixth with Missouri. For the third time in program history at the event, the Razorbacks didn’t count a score over 74 in the any of the three rounds. No. 1 Alabama claimed its third straight SEC Championship while Bobby Wyatt took home medalist honors, breaking Cappelen’s 54-hole record set in 2013. Arkansas will find out its destination for NCAA Regionals on Monday, May 5, at 9 a.m. when the NCAA selections are announced at 9 a.m. on the Golf Channel.

Worthy Of A Hog Call (#WPS) Cappelen’s bogey-free round on Sunday wasn’t a first for the Denmark native in the final round at the SEC Championship. In fact, Cappelen has gone bogey-free in the final round of the SEC Championship each of the last two years, carding 26 pars, 10 birdies and no bogeys over that span.
McMakin Post-Round Sound “I can’t say enough about the performances of Sebastian and Taylor. We needed big rounds today and they came through. Overall, we can take a lot from this weekend and head into the NCAA Regional with some confidence.”
