NORMAN, Okla. – University of Arkansas men’s tennis team picked up five wins on the third day of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championships on Saturday.
In the first round of the main singles draw, junior Santiago Munoz fought through three sets to defeat Nebraska’s Dusty Boyer 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4. The Razorback then pushed No. 1 seed Axel Alverez (Oklahoma) to a tie breaker in the second set, but ultimately lost 6-1, 7-5(5) in the round of 64.
After falling in the main draw, four Arkansas players pulled out wins in the consolation bracket. Beating the competition in straight sets, senior Jovan Parlic netted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Charlie Shin (Nebraska), freshman David Herrerias bettered Amar Saletovic of Oral Roberts 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Johan den Toom came out victorious over Wichita State’s Sergio de Vilchez 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Juan Marino battled through three sets to defeat Eric Frueh of Minnesota 6-1, 2-6, 12-10.
This concluded play for Arkansas at the ITA Central Regional Championships. The Razorbacks will next see competition in their final event of the fall season at the F.G.C.U. Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla. Oct. 31 – Nov. 2.
