Razorbacks Begin Play At ITA All-American Championships

Pre-Qualifying Draws

TULSA, Okla. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continued its fall campaign Saturday, as it began action at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sophomore Jose Alonso began the Razorbacks’ day in the pre-qualifier draw by defeating Dusan Vukicevic of St. Johns 6-2, 6-3. Alonso also won his second match of the day against Oriol Puig (Charlotte), 6-0, 6-3. The Málaga, Spain native is slated to begin action at 8 a.m. tomorrow against Antonio Muniz Hidalgo (Georgia Southern).

Alex Reco and Josh Howard-Tripp received byes in the round 256. Sophomore Josh Bortnick and junior Enrique Paya both fell in the first round of Saturday’s action.

Howard Tripp def. Taine Bernhard (Oklahoma), 6-3, 6-4 to advance to tomorrow’s round of 64 to face Noe Khlif of Illinois at 9:30 a.m.

The Razorbacks began play in the pre-qualifying round of the tournament. The final 16 players from the pre-qualifying round advance to qualifying singles. The ITA All-American Championships run from Sept. 29-Oct. 8, 2018. Pre-qualifying runs from Sept. 29-30, followed by qualifying Oct. 1-2 and the main draw Oct. 4-8.
