Razorbacks Capture Second at General Jim Hackl

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. – After ending the first round in a tie for sixth at 14 over par (302) Arkansas mounted a comeback and shot a combined two-under-par as a team in the second (289) and third (285) rounds to earn runner-up honors at the General Jim Hackler Intercollegiate. The 13th-ranked Hogs came away with a score of 876 for 12 over par against the 19-team field. Pepperdine took the team title with a six-over-par 870 on the TPC of Myrtle Beach’s 72 par, 6,950-yard golf course.
“We overcame some adversity and really played well together as a team,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “Pepperdine was just made too many shots for us to come back to get first. The conditions were better today, but I’m really proud of how the guys finished up.”
Senior All-American Andrew Dahl was Arkansas’ top finisher as he finished in a season-best fourth place. Dahl was only four shots back from touney champion, Alex Coe of Pepperdine, who posted a three-under-par 213. Dahl improved in the final two rounds after he posted a 76 in the first. He fired a 70 in the second round and a 71 in the third to propel himself into the top five with a final score of 217 (+1).
Sophomore Paul Bradshaw also posted a season-best finish when he tied for seventh place. It also marked his second-career top-10 showing. Like Dahl, Bradshaw had turned in a 76 in the first round, but rebounded today to shoot a 73 and 71 in the second and final rounds, respectively. His performance gave him a four-over-par 220 for the tournament.
In his first competition since October of 2003, senior Chad Faucett had a solid showing when he registered a six-over-par 222. Faucett put up his best effort in the second round when he shot a one-under-par 71. His 79 in the first round and 72 in the second placed him in a tie for 17th.
Freshman Matt Bortis tied for 27th with an eight-over-par 224. Bortis polished off the two-day tournament with a 71 in the final round after he shot a 78 and 75 in the first and second rounds, respectively.
Rounding out the Razorbacks was senior Seth Murphy. Murphy was leading the Hogs after the first round when he carded an even 72, but he recorded second and third rounds of 78 and 76. Those scores put the Athens, Texas native in a tie for 33rd in the 99-man field.
When the Hogs return from South Carolina they will head south to Austin, Texas for the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on March 14-16.
