Razorbacks Continue Fall Slate At Milwaukee Tennis Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continues its fall schedule this week as it travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, beginning Thursday.

This year’s 42nd annual tournament will be ranked as an Intercollegiate Athletic Association (ITA) gold-level competition, giving the singles winners wild cards into the ITA National Tournament in Indian Wells, California, from Nov. 1-5.

Senior Jose Salazar will play in a qualifier match on Thursday, with a spot in the main draw on the line.

Freshman Josh Howard-Tripp and juniors Oscar Mesquida and Matias Gonzalez will compete in the main draw, beginning on Friday. Draws will be announced Thursday. All players are guaranteed two matches.

In the fall opener, Gonzalez went 2-1, before falling in the Division I Round of 16 at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships to Robert Loeb of Georgia 6-3, 6-4. Mesquida also advanced to the Round of 16, before losing to Wayne Montgomery of Georgia 6-1, 6-1. Mesquida went 1-1 during the Championships, after receiving a first round bye.
