Razorbacks Drop Opener at Lobo Classic
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team lost its weekend opener Thursday evening, a four-set loss to New Mexico on day one of the Lobo Classic. Danielle Harbin tallied a match-high 12 kills while Savannah Voelzke posted her third double-double of the season. The Razorbacks return to WisePies Arena Friday for a match against top-ranked Nebraska with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).

After dropping the opening set, the Razorbacks responded with a quick start in the second and led 11-8 after a kill out of the middle from Breana Jones. The advantage reached as high as four points at 20-16 with back-to-back kills from Voelzke. With its lead down to two late in the set, Arkansas called a timeout and replied with three-straight points to even the match. The Razorbacks hit .395 with four total blocks in the second frame.
Carrying the momentum into the third set, Arkansas jumped out to a 9-5 advantage after consecutive kills from Jones. The lead was 17-11 after a Jusino-Voelzke block and a double contact called against the New Mexico setter. With a third kill in a five-point span, Voelzke gave the Razorbacks a 20-16 lead. However, the home team rattled off the final nine points to post a come-from-behind set victory, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The teams were tied at 3-all early in the fourth but New Mexico (6-2) won six of the next seven points to go ahead 9-4 and maintain its lead for the remainder of the match. Arkansas (1-6) got as close as two, trailing 12-10 after an ace by Okiana Valle. The Lobos went on to win four of the last five points to secure the four-set victory.
