Razorbacks Grind Out Win Over Auburn, 62-60
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Teddy Gipson converted a three-point play with 4:17 to play and T.J. Cleveland’s free throw with 1:30 left provided the winning margin as Arkansas beat Auburn, 62-60, Saturday.

The win improves the Razorbacks to 12-9 overall and 4-5 in the Southeastern Conference while Auburn drops to 9-11 and 1-8.

Derrick Bird gave Auburn a 56-54 lead on a 17-footer with 6:13 to play but Brandon Dean tied the game with a dunk off a pass from Jannero Pargo. Bird answered to give the Tigers a 58-56 lead but Alonzo Lane’s layup tied the game for the seventh and final time.

On the following possession, Gipson stole the ball near midcourt, made a layup and was fouled by Brandon Robinson, who had a huge game for Auburn with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Gipson, who made a career-high eight free throws in nine attempts, completed the three-point play. Lewis Monroe scored on a tip-in to get Auburn within one with 1:48 to go before Cleveland’s free throw 18 seconds later gave the Hogs a two-point lead.

Dean missed a pair of free throws in the final minute and Pargo was called for traveling while battling a teammate for a defensive rebound with 1.5 seconds left. A desperation shot by Auburn as the horn sounded was off the mark.

Gipson led the team with 14 points while Pargo had 12, all in the second half. Pargo also added four assists and four steals. Dean had eight points and a career-high tying seven rebounds.

Michael Jones had seven points, all in the first half as Arkansas built a 31-23 lead at the break. AU shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half to get back in the game.

Gomez finished with eight points and Lane six, the best point total for each in seven games.

Bird led the Tigers with 19 points.

Auburn had a huge rebounding edge, 42-22, but Arkansas scored 26 points off 21 Auburn turnovers while the Razorbacks lost the ball just 10 times.

Arkansas is off until Saturday, Feb. 9, when the Razorbacks travel to Ole Miss for a noon game televised by Jefferson-Pilot Sports.
